
This means, of course, to be true and honest to oneself, but also to others. It means to act authentically in accordance with your own beliefs and desires. In other words, integrity is important. Having said that, integrity sometimes means acting against our own interests. For example, suppose we are asked to do something in our employment that is questionable, or possibly even illegal. Do you do it? The choice would be a fairly stark one. To refuse could mean you lose your job, but to go along would mean that you risk a fine or incarceration if your actions are found out. So resign? Or go along? Integrity would seem to demand the former, but such decisions may not always be straightforward.
